History

The school was founded 1973, when, Dr. Faustino Legaspi Uy opened the School of Nursing with the Graduate of Nursing (GN) Program using the Las Piñas General Hospital – that eventually became Dr. Faustino L. Uy Medical Foundation – as the clinical division.

Deeply obsessed with the idea of service to the community and to the people, Dr. Uy felt, and rightly so, that his magnificent obsession can be brought to full realization with health care and education working hand in hand. Thus, with this strong ideal in 1975, Las Piñas College came into being.

Classes opened in June 1975 in its five-storey edifice in kindergarten, elementary, high school, nursing, the first two-years of Liberal Arts, vocational courses such as Automotive Mechanic, Dressmaking, Tailoring and One-Year General Clerical.

In 1977, the GN Program of the Nursing Course was phased out to give way to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program. Likewise, the two-year Junior Secretarial Course were offered.

In June 1979, the first two years of Business Administration and Engineering, including the two-year Architectural Drafting, were offered with the blessing of the then Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports (MECS) – now, of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) together with Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA), technical and vocational programs were also offered.

By School Year 1982-1983, the institution was allowed by the then Department of Education Culture and Sports to offer the two-year Hotel and Restaurant Management course. Also that year, the Doña Guillermina Building was completed and construction on the Administrative Building started.

Its founder envisioned the college to grow, expand and become a university. In preparation for this, LPC worked for and finally got the recognition permit for the graduate course in business, leading to a Master's program in Business Administration.

Unfortunately, Dr. Legaspi Uy succumbed to cardiac arrest on October 19, 1986 and died.

LPC is a living monument to the great and noble heart of Dr. Uy, who founded it in the spirit of unselfish sharing what he was so generously endowed with in life to those who have less. This commitment to, and covenant with the youth is faithfully and devotedly carried out by his widow, Dr. Luz Co Uy, who has taken even more courageously the awesome responsibilities as the second president of the institution.

Under her management and supervision, Las Piñas College earned the recognition permits for Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and B.S. Civil Engineering from CHED in 1993; B.S. Mechanical Engineering and B.S. Accountancy; the Two-year Nursing Assistant course from TESDA in 1995; for B.S. HRM from CHED in 1996; Two-year Computer Secretarial from TESDA in 1997; Two-year Associate in Computer Technology from CHED in 1998; two-year Office Management from TESDA in 2000; certificate of accreditation for LPC to accept foreign students from the Bureau of Immigration in 2001; certificate of TVET Program Registration (NTR) for the Two-year Architectural Drafting course, Two-year Nursing Assistant course, Two-year Computer Secretarial course and Six-month Caregiver course NC - II from TESDA in 2002; and the Certificate of TVET Program Registration (WTR) for the Certificate in Caregiver NC - II in 2004.

Present Times

Under the stewardship of executive vice president Marshall David Uy for the school year 2005-2006, the college underwent major improvements. The young but dynamic entrepreneur personally supervised the renovation of the airconditioned rooms for the kindergarten, administrative offices, faculty, and classrooms.

Together with the energetic EVP, is a team of competent professionals who are responsible for bringing the vision of the new Las Piñas College into reality. He provided another computer laboratory with Internet access for research and a fountain and landscaping of the promenade by the Dona Guillermina building. The construction of a more spacious library and canteen is going on.

In his desire to offer diverse curricular programs and answer the needs of students mostly coming from the south, he hired the services of consultants, and put up the laboratory and lecture rooms for the medical transcription course to open in June 2006.
